Description

A few metres from the station, driveways to Brussels and Antwerp, close to the bustling city centre and the Leuven Canal. Whether you use this property as a workplace, like the current law firm, spacious family home or a combo - you will rarely find a better location in Mechelen.

Architect Jos Chabot was a supporter of moderate modernism during the first decades of his career, rather of traditionalism and regionalism in WWII. This 1946 house retains many of his original stylistic features, such as the rounded arches and rounded front door and interior doors.

Stately façade in pale stone and original blue steelwork (refreshment welcome). On the left, the original front door to the hallway on marble with access to the indoor garage on the right - proof of Chabot's progressive ideas. Then the central hall with guest toilet, cloakroom and waiting room with wooden staircase, access to the dry (wine) cellars and the 1st office with garden access.

t +1 again a central room with beautiful skylight on nailed, inlaid parquet. In front the original living space with full glazing in steel and the same beautiful parquet, kitchen with original tiles, and sunny terrace on Winckelman tiles across the entire width of the house. Where the dining room used to be, you now find a spacious office with garden view, from which you can also go outside via the handsome spiral staircase. Night hall to +2 and +3 adding up to 3 more rooms and the original bathroom.

Light, space and location: the rock solid basis is already there. It's up to you to fine-tune this house to your own taste and wishes.

The owner,

owner speaks out

I bought this beautiful property together with my late father in 1996. To this day, we use this special place as a law office. It has always been a pleasure to work here, surrounded by a sea of space, lots of light and beautiful, thoughtful architectural elements. The location is also absolutely perfect: perfectly central, with both the heart of Mechelen, the train-bus station and the Leuvense Vaart within walking distance. Although I usually ride my bike to court, the spacious indoor garage is a huge plus - a great luxury in this fine residential street.
