Description

In a prime location in Lier stands a beautiful house, once one of the many small Lier breweries. The idyllic location on the Binnennete was ideal for transport. Right in the historic center with restaurants, schools, and shops around, near the Netekanaal and the Stadsvesten, the green belt around Lier. Close to access roads, bike paths, and the station (1 km).

This renovation project at Werf 10 dates back to the 18th century. Many elements of the original construction have been well preserved: wooden beams, elegant moldings, beautifully plastered and painted facades, herringbone parquet, characterful terracotta tiles, fireplaces in graceful natural stone, and the original gate in the side street Den Bril. Full of historical charm and character with particularly rich detailing – here you live in a phenomenal piece of history.

The property was renovated and transformed into a bourgeois house in the 19th century. The well-known Lier family Van de Wee, who lived here until 1961, also made some modifications. The ground floor was formerly used as an antique shop. Today, the bright property requires a new total renovation.

The current layout already offers many possibilities. Entrance hall with a view of the courtyard. Spacious living room with herringbone parquet, first kitchen, small garage. Beautiful living room with a view on the first floor and dining room with a view of the Saint Gummarus Church, second kitchen with authentic beams, terracotta floor, utility room. Spacious rooms on the second floor, with visible roof structure and braces.

Unique renovation project in an idyllic location – a rare opportunity.

The property was inhabited for decades by Gommaar Timmermans, son of the well-known Lier resident, Felix Timmermans.
The owners,

owner speaks out

In 1961, the property was rented by Gommaar Timmermans, son of Felix. Gommaar had just decided to fully focus on a career as a freelance cartoonist. Under the artist name GoT, he published his work in several prominent newspapers and weeklies. From the early 1950s, the young Gommaar drew for magazines and even the popular weekly ‘Tintin’ by Hergé. Gommaar and Mariette had a very extensive knowledge of and interest in antiques. Over the years, they built up a very fine collection. At Christmas 1976, Mariette began her successful career as an antique dealer and opened her antique shop here. She specialized particularly in English furniture. Their growing private collection of artworks and books gradually took over the entire house, which they had meanwhile purchased. Later, Gommaar became a columnist at Knack, where he already worked as a cartoonist. He stopped working around 2002, and Mariette also closed her antique shop in December 2010. Gommaar passed away in 2023, nearly 93 years old. Mariette followed him in early 2024, nearly 89 years old. Today, we are therefore looking for someone to write a new chapter in this special story.
