An exclusive tour of the impressive renovation of the mansion ‘Huis Tielen’. In this video, Ilze Quaeyhaegens of Cuypers & Q architects takes us behind the scenes of this special project. Discover how authentic charm and contemporary design come together in a harmonious whole.

In this video, Ilze Quaeyhaegens of Cuypers & Q architects takes us through the beautiful renovation of the historic Thielens home. Ilze explains:

‘Properties like this are scarce; with a rich history, full of stories and events, and with so many original elements preserved, despite not being protected. Built by architect Thielens in 1904, in an eclectic style, it was only the second building application to be licensed in this neighbourhood. It was later bought by architect Jos Smolderen, co-designer of the iconic Boerentoren tower and chief architect of the 1930 World's Fair in Antwerp.’

Owner Karen continues:

‘Jan and I bought the house with the aim of bringing back its original soul, and we succeeded. We went in search of the beautiful original features such as the fireplace and stained-glass windows. A large open space was created on the ground floor, with the kitchen fully part of the house. A long, elegant pool extends to a covered patio at the back. Two trees were central to the garden, and the roof has a large opening to give space to these trees. The connection with nature makes it a wonderful place to live and enjoy.’
